A Timely Note To Self

Note To Self, Freshman Edition:

If I lose my book for a week, and then decide to turn in some work, the teacher will not give me another book just because I ask for one. Not even if I explain that my book is lost, and I have no idea where it is. She will tell me that I have to pay for the lost book before I get another one.

*********************************************************

An Explanation From Mrs. Hillbilly Mom:

That, you see, is the reason that book numbers are recorded. To make sure that the responsible party returns the book he was issued. If it was just one big books-for-the-asking world we live in, there would be textbooks piled about the universe willy-nilly. No need to carry a book in and out of the classroom each day. Just ask for another one! Like a free-book fountain. The land of textbooks and honey. Unicorns, rainbows, and textbooks floating about in a Peter Max psychedelic landscape.

Criminy! This is a textbook we're talking about. Paid for out of the textbook fund. Not some school lunch program where you can run up $3000 in charges and not face any consequences.

Your school lunch program must work differently than ours. If a child doesn't have lunch money in their account, the cafeteria person takes the tray and throws it in the trash in front of everyone.

JM,
Wow! That's a bit harsh! Rumor has it that one family owes $3000. Some people would like to stop letting kids charge, and give them a peanut butter sandwich and carton of milk. Because we're compassionate like that. ;)

However, what with peanut allergies abounding these days, it would have to be a cheese sandwich, and then there's the lactose intolerants to worry about. But still, some schools around here do that, and the bill gets paid, because the kids complain about that sandwich.

All we can do is take away their parking spot. And now we can keep them from participating in sports. And attending dances. WooHoo! Debt Collectors R Us.

Did you hear about Louisiana where they are going to start report non lunch account payers to the State Child Services?

Least I think I remember hearing it while in the midst of feverish tv watching yesterday.

Silly kids.. textbooks aren't free

Jennifer,
That makes sense. They are not providing for their children.
