HM And The Amazing Technicolor Thyroid
Thar she blows, in all her technicolor glory, the former home of Mrs. Hillbilly Mom's left thyroid lobe and isthmus and partial right lobe. Uh huh. The surgeon took out more than he thought he would at first. I've quite a tale to tell, whenever I've a mind to get to it. Right now, I'm not in such a comfortable mood to wax poetic on my lobectomy. I don't go back until June 23 for my follow-up appointment. It was supposed to be June 16, but that is the #1 son's basketball team camp in Mississippi, and we have already made plans. I figure if it's good news, it can wait, and if it's bad news, it should wait, so as not to spoil the mini-vacation. The looks of the ultrasound and the fine-needle biopsy pointed to a benign nodule, but unlike Farmer H, Mrs. HM doesn't count her chickens until they hatch.
This photo is from today. The surgery was May 25. Swelling has greatly diminished from what it was Tuesday night. I have slept about 10 hours total since Monday night, so I'm not my usual bubbly self. Oh, and I had a side trip to the ER today, which kind of took the wind out of my sails. But don't y'all worry none about Mrs. Hillbilly Mom. She's got a supply of 40 oxycodone to get her through, minus the three she's taken since coming home from the hospital Wednesday afternoon.

OUCH! I hope you feel better soon.
Inga
Owwwwwwwwwww
Glad to hear the swelling went down, but geez. Take it easy and let those sweet sweet oxycodone send you to lala land. You need the rest!
Inga,
Thanks. Every day is a little better. The worst part is a pain in the BACK of my neck, from that time I hurt it while coughing in the La-Z-Boy.
Chick,
I must say that I have been relying on my little white friends.
Looks sore. Thank God for pain meds.
Where in Mississippi is the basketball camp?
Miss Ann,
Oxycodone beats the stuffing out of Benadryl! Tell your mom.
The camp is in Oxford, at Ole Miss, June 16-18.
Fabulous looking job I have got to say! The first one I encountered was when I was first trained and the dressing was from one side to the next of this poor girl's neck. She had umpteen staples there, and it took me ages to take them out. But, it did not hurt her and I tried to stay as non- shaky as possible to make the removal easy.
I bet your bruising will subside in no time ..keep up those pain meds, and make double sure you keep up the bowel movers too..as the pain meds an block your "works" if ya know what I mean :)
Cazzie,
I must say, it does look good. They used Dermabond and that tape, though there are probably stitches on the inside that will dissolve. I am taking my pain meds as directed during the day, and I can really tell that I've missed them when I wake up in the morning. Those bowel movers do the trick. I'm certainly glad the doc prescribed them, because I'm not one to go out and buy something like that over-the-counter.
